Understanding the controlling factors of greenhouse gas exchange between the atmosphere and the Earth's surface, and refining this exchange process within Earth system models, is essential. This laboratory is engaged in research on greenhouse gas exchange between the atmosphere and various types of Earth's surface. For example, forests exchange carbon dioxide and water vapor with the atmosphere, and these exchanges vary from moment to moment in response to changes in environmental variables such as solar radiation and air temperature. By continuously measuring the changes in these exchange rates (called fluxes) in the field using micrometeorological observation techniques, we aim to elucidate the exchange processes. Currently, we are conducting observational research in forests and lakes in Japan and Alaska.
